Fracking and Coal

What is fracking?  “Fracking is a drilling technique which involves injecting toxic chemicals, sand, and millions of gallons of water under high pressure directly into the ground to release natural gas in shale deposits. This mixture of toxins and sediment, along with any natural gas released, can leak to the surface and enter rivers and groundwater in the process.” Fracking is it worse than what I think? Yes, in the documentary GASLAND filmed by Josh Fox the fracking company asked to lease his property so they can drill. Fracking is destroying people’s water system and are killing millions of people and animals. The water can light up on fire because of the gas that comes out with it. Because water is being contaminated people are feeding it to their animals and children. People who are affect by this are low-income people and farmers. They would try to buy the land and tell the people everything is going to be ok. After a few weeks you can see changes in the water like color change, smell, and taste. Families are forced to move or buy water off a store because of contamination. They may be doing this in your backyard do you research.

Coal is used everywhere and accounts for 45% of the worlds electricity.  Coal is acquired by blowing up sides or the top of the mountains and taking it from the base. This can destroy wild life homes and the beauty of the mountain. When coal is burned is produces clouds that has deadly smoke. The deadly smoke has carbon dioxide which pullets the earth and destroys the ozone layer.

Fracking is worse than coal because more people and animals are affect by the water and we can’t do anything about it. Coal is bad to but fracking is everywhere and who knows they can be in your backyard contaminating your water when you don’t even know it.

  1. Fracking Vs. Coal : I like that you posted facts for these two different energy sources. It really made me think of which one was worse and which one was better. You should have posted more facts about coal, and why it is a better source than fracking.

  2. I agree with your position on the topic but i would be careful in that last paragraph. You cannot just frack anywhere there are only specific areas that you can frack in but there is the possibility of all water ways being contaminated by the natural gas in one way or another.
